Vaccines and Immunizations

The World Health Organization (WHO) considers immunization as “the process whereby a person is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, typically by the administration of a vaccine.” Such vaccines stimulate our immune system to develop antibodies against multiple preventable diseases as children, including measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, and polio, among others. Recommended adult vaccines protect against influenza, tetanus, herpes zoster and pneumococcal infections.
